Why: People used the practice of theater to worship their god Dionysus, the god of grape harvesting, wine making and wine itself (many other things I'm to lazy to list lol), and the practice of theater.

Dionysus, god of wine, fertility, and revelry; later the Greek festival of theatre, "City Dionysia," was held in his honor.
