What did freedom mean for the ex-slaves? be sure to address economy opportunities, gender role, religious independence and family security?

Respuesta :

It almost meant nothing. Their economic freedom turned into a sharecropping system which basically meant that the people were not slaves but had to work in extreme conditions and for low wages because the owners of the plantations were capitalists and racists. They couldn't marry equally and it was forbidden for miscegenation which meant they could only stick to other African-Americans. They could practice their religion but it was in smaller communities that were segregated. Gender roles were more or less the same as before the war.

Freedom meant nothing for the ex-slaves.

Further Explanations:

The booming economy attracted many immigrants to America in search of occupation and this created havoc which led to the rise of slavery, as immigrants were gladly accepting slavery. Most of them who accepted slavery were African- American. These slaves were harshly treated and were kept in a very inhumane manner.

President Abraham Lincoln firstly who took ingenuity to obliterate slavery from America. On 1st January 1863, he dispensed the “Emancipation Proclamation” to lift the legal eminence of American Slaves. It was the first major step of any American president against slavery. He was quite successful in his motive but not to a larger extent. It almost meant nothing for them as their economic freedom levied into the hands of capitalist and racist who was in favor of the sharecropping system that meant to employ the ex-slaves at very low wages. They were forbidden from miscegenation and were allowed to practice their religious customs to a very small extent.
