Charles Robert Ashbee (1863 - 1942) was born in Isleworth, a village west of London, wrote 2 novels and after a trip with his friend Frank Lyord Wright (leading architect) began to become more involved with architecture. It was greatly influenced by John Ruskin and William Morris.
British designer, writer, entrepreneur and architect, he was a driving force for the Arts & Crafts movement. Studied history at Cambridge.
He established the craft school in 1887, and in 1888 while studying to be an architect at the GF Bodley and Tomas Gamer office, the Guild of Handicraft in London. I wanted to represent the ideals of the Arts & Crafts movement. It started with 5 workmen doing furniture and metalworking. In 1891 they moved and included in the works the first jewels with silver and cheap and colored stones, without historical precedents. In 1904 founded the School of Arts & Crafts.
