Trading with the Mohican Indians allowed Hudson to return to the Netherlands with rich furs, tobacco, and maize. The fur trade and the tobacco industry both grew significantly. Native Americans, particularly the Mohicans, were impacted by Henry Hudson.
Instead of trapping for subsistence, the Indigenous people who engaged with the Hudson's Bay Corporation now did so to purchase commodities from the company. The Indigenous also formed their own spheres of authority, keeping their competitors out. On his third journey, Henry Hudson headed up the Hudson River into what is now Albany. He thought he had discovered the Northwest Passage and that if he pursued it, he could reach Asia. But the river soon grew too shallow for him to cross, so he had to go back. He encountered the Mohican Indians on the way.
