The theme of this passage is that by teaching our boys good manners, we may help them to be noble men. Children must be taught, practiced, and modeled good manners in order for them to become second nature.

The people around our boys will live much more happily both now and in the future if we teach them some simple etiquette like:
When speaking, be sure to speak slowly, clearly, and politely.
Stand up upon being introduced.
Give a solid handshake. Give a handshake to who extend one to you.
Say "Nice to meet you" after shaking hands and introducing yourself to someone.
When someone speaks to you, respond, even if it's just to say "yes, sir." No waves or mumbling are accepted.
The pronouns "sir" and "ma'am" are appropriate in most situations.
