Mouth sores can become infected, so practicing good oral hygiene is important . Using only a soft-bristle brush 2-3 times a day and at bedtime for 2-3 minutes. Let the toothbrush air-dry between brushings and replace the brush often.
Proper oral hygiene prior to or during and after cancer treatments can reduce the incidence and severity of many oral complications. Some oral hygiene like topical morphine mouthwashes work better than magic mouthwash for treating mouth sores in cancer patients.
