There are those, however, who do not promote wind power such as the National Research Council. They claim that, "wind turbines already in place...kill hundreds of birds and bats each year." It is true that during the early years of wind power, many birds were drawn into windmills. Plans,however, are in place to guard these species from flying into the turbines. In addition, scientists are already developing technology off the shore of coastal Georgia to measure the harnessing of offshore breezes that could be harvested during the summer when the need for power reaches its highest demand. Science has a plan to protect our environment and those who fly its skies.
