The Caliph Uthman was an educated man who wouldn't have lied about the beliefs of Islam.

Explanation:

Just as a sidenote. The Quran was compiled and standardized under Abu Bakr (the first caliph out of the Four Righteous Caliphs) but Uthman recompiled it in order to promote Quranic education to Muslims across his empire.
