Saladin was the first Sultan of Egypt and Syria.
He was also the founder of the Ayyubid Dynasty, making him a Muslim political and military leader. Keep in mind that Saladin led the Muslim forces during the crusades.
Saladin's most famous and greatest triumph over the Crusaders of Europe was at the Battle of Hatin in 1187.
