1. There is a higher water potential outside the cell compares to the inside of the cell. Cell compared to the inside of the cell. So, the water molecules travel from the outside of the cell to the inside down the water potential gradient from higher to lower water potential through osmosis. Osmosis is the movement of higher water potential to lower water potential down the water potential gradient through a semi permeable membrane.
2. Most of the water molecules travel to the inside of the cell and makes the cell expands in size and volume. Therefore, the cell expands in size and volume. That’s why the cell seems to have enlarged in size and volume in the end.
