The Franco-Prussian War was of great significance for Germany. The reason why it was so important was that it was a war in which the Germans were trying to get hold onto the historic territories where the Germanic people lived. If this was accomplished, Germany would have became much larger, very strong nation, thus it would have been a force to be reckoned with. The German unification was successful to a certain point, with the small German states merging into one larger state, but France was not conquered and included into this territory, so that was a big fail of the plan.
