Three major differences between ancient Aksum and modern-day Ethiopia are their geography, religion and economic power. Geographically, Aksum comprised modern-day northern Ethiopia (Tigray province) and Eritrea (see attached map). The religion of Aksum was mainly Christianity and Judaism, while Ethiopia main religion is still Christianity but the second one is Islamic. Finally, the economic power of Aksum made it among the four greatest empires of their era, while modern day Ethiopia is struggling because of lack of enough resources for their people.
