In Erikson's terminology, a coherent conception of the self made up of
goals, values, and beliefs to which a person is solidly committed is
called identity. Erikson's
5th stage of psychosocial development is Identity vs. Role Confusion. In this stage an adolescent seeks to
develop a coherent sense of self, including the role he or she is to
play in society
