Three phases of the space program:

- Mercury: from 1961 to 1963. The objective was to determine if humas could survive in space. This phase consisted on six missions, launching single astronauts into space in the Mercury spacecraft. In the end they spent up to 34 hours in space.

- Gemini: from 1965 to 1966. In the Gemini spacecraft two astronauts were able to maneuver in space. This phase consisted of 10 missions in which they spent long periods of time on space, learning how to live in space for two weeks, the time necessary to go to the Moon and return to Earth.

- Apollo: from 1967 to 1972. Apollo's objective was to land men on the Moon, exploring it and returning safe to Earth. After various unsuccesful attemps, Apollo 11 succedes carrying the first men to the Moon. They spent hours walking there.
