I do not agree because one of the main causes of the Civil War was the Confederates, the Confederates broke away from America because they wanted slavery to stay. The Wilmot Proviso stated that any land acquired from Mexico in the Mexican war would not have slavery. This made the people in the south angry. The Wilmot Proviso was a primary step toward war. The war with Mexico just created a border dispute.
