A marine scientist concluded that the Canary Islands could not have been formed from volcanic activity because his data showed that the fault on which the islands lies was inactive during the islands' formation. How does this disagreement contribute to the scientific process?

A. Scientific claims are strengthened by evaluating opposing arguments.
B. Scientific logic is made more rigorous by conflicting data collected by different groups.
C. Logical conclusions based on careful measurements are likely to be correct.
D. Scientific hypotheses are disproved when two scientists come to different conclusions.

Respuesta :

Logical conclusions based on careful measurements are likely to be correct.

The correct answer is option A, that is scientific claims are strengthened by evaluating opposing arguments.

Argument refers to an array of statements used to persuade someone of something or to present reasons for accepting a conclusion. Due to disagreements, one can brainstorm on the aspects that are a bit inconclusive.

By finding the loopholes in each argument one can generalize the precise and accurate finding considering the issue. Maybe there arises a need to verify the data collected to counter check the conclusions.
