On Earth, terrestrial and marine plants are the producer organisms. They take carbon dioxide for the process of photosynthesis. In this process, they release carbon dioxide again to the atmosphere.
When herbivores and omnivores which are eating plants undergo a process called respiration, carbon dioxide is released by utilizing oxygen. The plants undergo a process called photosynthesis where this carbon is used to make energy. After this process, oxygen is released to the atmosphere from the plants. The continuous exchange of carbon between plants and animals is called as carbon cycle.
