Eugene V. Debs was a union organizer, head of the Pullman Strike, member of the Socialist Party, a politician, and presidential candidate. Debs was a liberal and more of a moralist than an intelligent or popular politician. He revealed that he had little tolerance with the numerous elements of communism, particularly those in Europe, and he was most relaxed in the company of common working people.
