The potential difference between two parallel plates is related to the electric field intensity by
[tex]\Delta V = Ed [/tex]
where
[tex]\Delta V[/tex] is the potential difference
E is the electric field intensity
d is the distance between the two plates.
In our problem,
[tex]d=0.10 cm[/tex]
and
[tex]E=12 V/cm [/tex]
so we can calculate the potential difference as
[tex]\Delta V= Ed = (12 V/cm)(0.10 cm)=1.2 V[/tex]
