Read the excerpt from "Lessons of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
" Our workers labor for many hours every day under the hot sun, often without safe drinking water or toilet facilities. Our workers are constantly subjected to incredible pressures and intimidation to meet excessive quotas. My friends, if we are going to end the suffering, we must use the same people power that vanquished injustice in Montgomery, Selma, and Birmingham.
Based on this passage, the reader can conclude that one purpose of Chavez’s speech is to
A. give people interesting information about how a grape farm operates.
B. persuade people to join the farm workers’ fight against poor working conditions.
C. urge people to decrease the quotas that farm workers must meet each month.
D. show people that the workers in Selma are the same as the farm workers.

Respuesta :

A is not the answer. He doesn't want to inform people about how an industry works. He wants to inform them about how an industry doesn't work, or how it misuses its labor force.

C is correct, but he does not want only C to be corrected. C is the second best answer.

D is not true. He's using Selma, Montgomery and Birmingham as examples of the kind of people needed. His audience has to be able to oppose injustice. His workers are not the same people as found under King, but they have to be the same kind of people.

B In this short excerpt he uses 4 examples to point at poor working conditions.  His tone is one of controlled anger. He wants people to listen and to act and to do away with the poor working conditions.
