Women were granted the right to vote primarily based on how they acted during wartime, and they gained recognition for being able to do mens' jobs

Both women and African Americans benefitted in several ways from the war. As men were recruited to fight in the war (particularly white men), this left a lot of jobs and occupations free for African Americans and women to take over. Both of these groups contributed to the maintenance and continuity of society during times of war. However, despite these opportunities, both groups continued to face important limitations. Women were expected to go back to their domestic endevours after the return home of the men. African Americans, on the other hand, continued to face exclusion and racism.
