Fourier advocated the equality of women in a socialist community.

Pioneer of socialist thought, Charles Fourier (17720-1837), spoke out against the unfairness of the bourgeois structure of the family that was in place.  He said, for instance, "Social progress and changes of historical period take place in proportion to the advance of women toward liberty, and social decline occurs as a result of the diminution of the liberty of women."

Fourier's proposed system abolished the traditional family structure for a communal society in which love was shared freely and children were raised collectively by the group.
