Alonzo's suitcase can weigh no more than 20 kilograms if he wants to take it on the airplane without paying a fee. His suitcase weighs 220 hectograms. How much weight will Alanzo have to take out of his suitcase to meet the weight limit?

1 kilogram is 10 hecto grams so 220 divided by 10 is 22 and that means he has to take out 2 kilograms to meet the limit

This is a matter of remembering prefixes. Hecto- means 100, or 10².
That means the suitcase weighs 220 × 10² grams, or 22,000 grams.
At the same time, we know that there are 1000 grams in a kilogram so to find how many kilograms that suitcase is, divide 22,000 by 1000 to get 22 kilograms. For Alonzo to avoid paying, he will have to remove 2 kilograms out of his suitcase.
