 the spanish civil war that happened in the 1930's after a failed coup is considered as a precursor to ww2 to because of the way it sucked foreign powers into it. the defeat of the republicans was caused by this interventon, which angered their foreign supporters.

Spain--the Spanish Civil War took place in the late 1930s.

A military coup to overthrow the Republican government failed resulting in a war between the Republican government back by Russia, the US, and other allied powers, and the Nationalists backed by fascist Italy and Germany. This civil war not only created a fascist government in Spain which would be an aggressor in World War II but also demonstrated the opposing sides of World War II. The alliances of this war foreshadowed the sides of World War II and the governments that would be supported on each side of the war.
