Dysthymia or chronic depression is less sever and has less symptoms than major depression. With this type of depression, the symptoms can stay for a long period of time, often 2 or more years.
Major or clinical depression it may be difficult to work, sleep, study, eat, and enjoy friends and activities. With this, you get a constant sense of hopelessness and despair (that's a sign).
Both have:
- recurring thoughts of death or suicide
- Problems with concentration and making decisions
- Insomnia or excessive sleeping
- change in weight (gain or loss)
- restlessness
- loss of enjoyment, interest, that were once pleasurable
- fatigue or loss of energy
Hope I helped :)
