Russia was sending millions of untrained soldiers to the war with not enough supplies which led to a very high death count in Russia. Nicholas II spent much of Russia's money on the war leaving the rest of the country in poverty. People were starving to death and struggling to survive as food supplies were limited with men off at war instead of producing food. Strikes began in the cities in protest of the conditions and the war.
