When describing the events of a story you want to make sure you are putting them in present tense, as if they are happening while you're writing. This excerpt should be changed to say: 
"In the play The Crucible, by Arthur Miller, people in a small town begin to accuse townsfolk of being witches. No one is safe, and many people are hanged."
