Only by soil. nitrification it is the conversion of ammonia first into nitrites then into nitrates by nitrifying bacteria and denitrification is the conversion of nitrites and nitrates into free nitrogen. Why are bacteria important to the nitrogen cycle?
The bacteria is prokaryote and these bacteria are important because they help the other organism such as plant by fixing nitrogen in environment. Bacteria transform gaseous nitrogen into ammonia that is used by plants.

The nitrogen life cycle is referred to as sequence in which nitrogen in the atmosphere is passed into the soil and life forms, and then released back into the atmosphere.
Although nitrogen is present abundant in the atmosphere, most organisms cannot use it in initial form. Nitrogen cannot be formed by living organisms, so it must be constantly recycled.
