x^a(x^b)^m = x^(a+bm)
When multiplying numbers, the base (x) must be the same. Add the exponents. When raising (x^b)^m, multiply exponents.
Examples: x²x³ = x^5.
x²(x³)² = x²x³x³ = x^8 [2x(3x2)]
In the second equation, division of exponents means to subtract. The big clue is 8/4 = 2, so any correct answer must be preceded by 2.
5-4 = 1, and x^1 = x. So: 2x
