The main way in which the War Powers Resolution was intended to limit presidential authority was that it limited the number of days a President could commit US troops to a conflict without the express authority of Congress.

The War Powers Resolution demands that the President informs Congress within 48 hours that they have entered a military engagement by committing troops overseas.

It also stipulates that these troops cannot be engaged in this conflict for more than sixty days without authorization from Congress.

So, as we can see, it limits presidential authority by granting the Congress some of the power over the troops, and by demanding the that the president informs them about military engagement.
