One of the Vice President's duties is to preside over the Senate. Being the President of the Senate, the Vice President will perform two important tasks. One is to cast a vote when there is a Senate deadlock. This is a situation where there is a 50-50 division between Democrats and Republicans in a vote for Senate majority. Second is to certify the official vote count of the U.S. Electoral major. In the event of voting, the Vice President has the upper hand to decide the majority that will rule the Senate.
