The Articles of Confederation (or Articles of Confederation
and Perpetual Union) was made because the United States of America needed a uniting
constitution to unite them for their independence. The thirteen original states
agreed to create this and became the first Continental Congress on November 15,
1777. The confederation was loose in nature and has a loose weak central
government however; however its successes were on dealing the Western lands
such as the Northwest Ordinance of 1787. That helped pay the Nation’s debts and
launched western lands without so much chaos.
