The Greek fire: A weapon resulting from a mixture of sulfurs,  closely resembling modern napalm. The weapon created flames that engulfed everything they came into contact with. The fire was further ignited in the presence of water. The bodies continued to burn in water and thus little could be done against the destructive effects of this technological shift in warfare.

-The greek fire was an invention from Callinicus of Heliopolis.

- The Byzantine Empire once stretched to the Middle East, and had Lebanon and Syria lost to the Arabs. Greek Fire became crucial in defeating the Arabs in the sea. It had a devastating effect on enemy ships. As a technological innovation, it was widely contribution to the victory in Constantinople against the Arabic armies. It enabled the Byzantine Empire to survive.

-The Greek Fire wasn't solely used on Byzantine warships but also in defending the walls of Constantinople itself, a target of the Sarracen armies that among many centuries settled a siege.
