Jerry started doing sit ups every day. The first day he did 15 sit ups. Every day after that he did 2 more sit ups than he had done the previous day. Today Jerry did to 33 sit ups. Write an equation that could be solved to find the number of days Jerry has been doing sit ups, not counting the first day.
Thank you so much!!

Respuesta :

y = sit ups, x= days

y= 2x + 15
33 = 2x + 15 (subtract 15 from both sides)
18 = 2x (divide both sides by 2)
9 = x, 9 days

The correct answer is:

y = 15+2x

Explanation:

Jerry does 2 sit-ups per day.  Let x be the number of days.  This is represented as 2x.

He did 15 sit-ups the first day.  We add this to the 2x; this gives us 15+2x.  Letting y be the total number of sit-ups he does each day, we have

y = 15+2x
