The correct answer is General Douglas MacArthur.
The so called Bonus Army marches were organized by World War I veterans in Washington D.C. in 1932. The veterans, along with their wives and children, demanded immediate bonus payment for their wartime services.
The bonus payments were given to them by the U.S. government as a recompensation for their services in the war. However, they were not redeemable till 1945, a fact that bothered many veterans struggling with hardship during the Great Depression.
President Herbert Hoover sent troops to disperse the protestants. The troops were led by General Douglas MacArthur who ordered the use of tear gas to drive out the demonstrators.
One veteran was shot to death and several others wounded.
