The group that could be described for the first time in the 1920s with the terms flapper, wage earner, and voter was women. During "The Roaring Twenties", young women wanted to free themselves from the customs of the past. These women looked and acted differently. They took advantage of the new freedoms available to them, like the right to vote on national elections. Also, women began to work outside the home in factories and mills.
