When we read an essay, one of the things that we are likely to notice is that the author makes arguments within his texts. These are claims that the author wants to prove through his writing. As we are reading, it is important for us to evaluate the arguments that the author makes in his speech for several reasons.
First, this will allow us to better understand what it is that the author is trying to prove in the text. Second, by evaluating the arguments presented, we are more likely to understand whether these claims are valid or not, and whether we should be convinced by them. Finally, these arguments, if convincing, will allow us to learn from the essay and test our preconceived notions.
