A health worker needs to understand the social norms and beliefs of a patient to make sure the female patient is comfortable and not likely to be offended. The worker also needs to know how his or her culture differs from the patient's culture and understand their principles and values. These need to be understood because every culture does not view reproduction the same way, so it is important for a worker to know this.
