A magazine printed photos of three celebrities along with three photos of the celebrities as babies. The baby pictures did not identify the celebrities. readers were asked to match each celebrity with the correct baby pictures. What is the probability that a reader guessing at random will match all three correctly?

Respuesta :

The probability that the first celebrity photo will be correctly matched to the baby photo is 1/3 because there are 3 baby pictures and only 1 of them is that of the first celebrity.

That leaves 2 photos from which to select correctly the baby photo of the second celebrity. The probability of that is 1/2.

The third celebrity is matched to the remaining picture. That is a sure thing is the first two celebs have been correctly matched.

P(3 matches) = 1/3  *  1/2  *  1 =  1/6

Answer: 1/6
