This process is photosynthesis. It can be defined as the physico-chemical process by which photosynthetic organisms use light energy to drive the synthesis of organic compounds.
in the light dependent reactions of photosynthesis, photons from sunlight are used as a source of energy to split a water molecule from which electrons are obtained and added to the electron carrier molecule NADP which becomes NADPH.
NADPH is then used in the light independent reactions of photosynthesis called the Calvin cycle to drive the production of glucose, sucrose, starch, cellulose and other types of carbohydrates. These products are all organic compounds.
