The use of the terms Encounter and Columbian Exchange represents attempts to describe the (1) nature of cultural interactions. The term "encounter" is defined as "an authentic, congruent meeting between individuals." The Columbian Exchange was the many different cultural, ideological and technological exchanges between the people of European descent, the Indigenous peoples of the Americas and people of African descent.
