One of the main effects of the popularity of suburbia in the 1950s in the United States was that many people started buying cars and commuting into cities, since there was no public transportation in suburbia. 

The mass migration of the 1950s created a housing shortage in the late 1940s which created the widespread of suburbs, growing six times faster than the cities. Those suburbs witnesses the popularization of goods that made the ease the way of life. Air conditioners became popular in the warmest states in the south, mass construction of suburban houses gave personal freedom and familial security for thousands of people. As a matter of status, the car production soared during this period.
