President Truman sent American troops in Korea as a response to North Korean army’s invasion of the South Korea. Truman appointed Gen. Douglas MacArthur who led the successful Battle of Inchon that pushed the North Korean forces back. Soon, they are nearing the Yalu River that separated North Korea from China. Truman wanted to limit the war and avoid antagonizing China, which is contrary to MacArthur’s desire to bomb and attack China. At home, Truman also faced the tasks of defending the free world against the spread of communism and developing the American nuclear arsenal.
