The collapse of the Soviet Union not only resulted in the collapse of the Eastern European Economy and trading relations but it also led to the creation of upheaval in many of the countries of Eastern Europe. As a result of this, crime and corruption increased in within the Russian Government. Therefore, those nations that broke up with the Soviet Union took some measures such as increased foreign investment, lowered the debt of the government, joined the European Union and privatization, to address the problems caused by this breakup.
