For example, a person who believes that girls with long hair will be more feminine than girls with short hair. A person who encounters a girl with long hair that is feminine, he will place greater importance on this evidence, because it supports what he already believes in before. An individual might even look for other shreds of evidence to support their beliefs.

 

Confirmation biases also give impact on how people gather information. Confirmation bias also influences one’s interpretation of information. For example, a person who is supporting one particular issue will seek information that supports the issue. He will also interpret new stories that uphold their existing ideas. He will also look around for little details to support and reinforce the attitudes.

 

For example, the case of LGBTQ people. Ashley is homophobic that doesn’t believe in same-sex marriage. So, when she hears that Taiwan allowed same-sex marriage, she will use this to support her beliefs. She will state that the world is getting crazier and same-sex marriage shouldn’t be legalized.  

 

Toby, on the other hand, he supports LGBTQ. When he hears that Taiwan allows same-sex marriage, he will use this to support his beliefs. That love is love and everyone, everywhere, should experience the same rights for love. With this example, we can conclude that even the same information can be perceived differently by different people to support their own beliefs.
