The term "Lili'uokalani" refers to the last female monarch of Hawaii, who reigned until 1893. She was the first queen and last monarch of Hawaii. Her efforts to draft a new constitution created an uprising of the pro-American elements of Hawaii. This resulted in the overthrow of the Hawaiian monarchy and the establishment of the Republic of Hawaii.
Lydia Kamakaeha, also known as Liliuokalani, was the first and last queen and the last reigning monarch of Hawaii before she died in November 11, 1917 and before the United States annexed the Hawaii in 1898. She ascended the throne after King Kalakaua died in January 1891.
