C. We take subject tests to demonstrate our strengths to increase the chances of admission into a particular school in a university, such as the school of engineering.

the answer is: C.To demonstrate their strengths to colleges

the colleges have very limited seats and extremely large number of applicants. (All the colleges in united states could only accommodate around 60% of total high school graduates). SAT test is used by universities to measure the best possible candidates from the total graduates.
