What Mrs. Sommers she actually forgets to eat lunch. As we know, in this short story by Kate Chopin, Mrs. Sommers was a wealthy women before marriage and now well she is not. After she obtains the 15 dollars (a large sum at the time) she decides she will buy something for her children but as she goes into town she actually spends the money on herself. In all that excitement she just forgot to eat her lunch.
