In The Great Gatsby, how does F. Scott Fitzgerald depict the destruction of the ideals and values of the late nineteenth century. How does he show the lack of goodness left in humanity through the characters who surround Gatsby, as well as through Gatsby himself and his life?

What was commonly understood as the American dream that stated that anyone can succeed and become rich and things like that was deconstructed in the Great Gatsby because it showed all the negative and destructive aspects of the American dream and everything that it became due to corruption of the people.

He shows it through various characters who are already rich and who dislike Gatsby for being newly rich and it is also seen through Gatsby who had to go from rags to riches doing illegal things just to be able to impress others who wouldn't even look at him otherwise.
