Scientists have developed genetically engineered plants that are pest-resistant. By adding genes to the plant's DNA, they become toxic to insects (but not to plants or animals). This means that these plants may not need to be sprayed with pesticides to ward off the insects.

Would you be willing to eat these genetically altered crops? Explain your answer.

What are some possible impacts (positive or negative) of this genetically engineered plant on the environment, society, and individuals?

Respuesta :

1. I would not be willing to eat the genetically altered crops.
This is majorly because extensive research has not been carried out on these crops to ascertain if there are any future possible side effects of eating these foods. It is very essential that long term study be carried out on these crops to determine their full effects on humans.
2. One of the advantages of these genetically altered crops is that they reduce the environmental pollution caused by pesticides. Also, they eliminate the danger of crops' pests becoming pesticides resistant.
Genetically altered foods has the potential to create unpredictable, hard to detect side effects such as allergies, toxins, new diseases and nutritional problems.
